PTA-Sponsored Programs for our Children

Reflections

Reflections is a National PTA-sponsored arts recognition program that encourages self-discovery through artistic exploration and expression, and – above all – participation!   It is designed to complement the outstanding fine, performing, and cultural arts education offered at CES.  It provides an opportunity for students to receive positive recognition for their individual artistic efforts outside of the classroom.  Student participation in the program is voluntary.  Themes are selected from thousands of ideas submitted by students annually to the National PTA’s Reflections Program Theme Search.  This year’s theme is "Diversity Means…" For more information, including guidelines and applications, please see our Reflections page.

Engineering Club

The Engineering Club, open to eligible fifth graders, The club meets monthly and strives to encourage and strengthen skills and interest in math and science.Students interested in joining need to write a persuasive essay, expressing their strengths and desire to be a team player in the club. Math and science abilities, as well as the ability to be a team player are assets for consideration.

Writing Club

Once again, 4th-grade teacher Mrs. Paula Davis is the “Tiger Society’s” faculty advisor. The club is limited to eligible 4th and 5th-grade students. At the end of last year Mrs. Davis asked for writing submissions from all 3rd grade students. She pored over the more than 100 essays the children submitted last spring. Those students will soon receive an invitation to join the club. Fifth grade students who participated last year will also be eligible to join again. Over the course of the year, Mrs. Davis allows the children to “try on” different writing styles, exposes them to various forms of poetry and writing that they might not typically encounter, and brings in guest artists to talk about writing. This club meets once a month, and should start up in October.

Yearbook Club

Art teacher Greta Morris is the faculty advisor for this year’s Yearbook Club. Twelve lucky students, who will be selected on the basis of a parent-signed (student-written) entry essay, will get to work with digital cameras, computer software, layout and design.

24 Club

Members of the 24-club meet to take part in the exciting, brain teasing mathematical game of 24. Through practice and competition, students devise ways to make 24 by adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. (Grades 4-5)
