Board of education meeting
Sorry to the parents who showed up at the board of education meeting on
Wednesday. They completed their work early and so mostly everyone missed
fun part of standing up for our school.
That said, we won! We got the funding from the board, and the
construction forecast looks like this:
June 2009, they'll begin construction on kindergarten pod and open space
enclosures (considered two separate projects, but grouped together in
process).
They will attempt to complete 1/2 of the open space enclosures by August
of 09, and then clear out the construction crew. Since the kindergarten
wing won't disrupt students, they'll continue on that through the 09-10
school year. Then in June of 2010, they'll move back in to work on the
open space enclosures. By august of 2010, everything should be wrapped
up.
They have done this at other schools, and so know how long it ought to
take. On the further good news front, the Obama transition team
has reached out to state superintendents to have school construction
projects that are ready to roll as part of the new administration's
upcoming stimulus package. Since we are already on the books with this
and past the plan and feasibility stage,
this could be one of the projects that receives immediate federal funds.
Emphasis on COULD. (They don't call me...) Keep your fingers crossed
because this project is still contingent on state funds to keep it alive
-- but a federal infusion of cash for projects just like this could be
VERY good for us, especially in these tight budget times.
Thanks!
